Software Development Engineer in Test (A4Q-SDET)

The A4Q Testing Foundations for Developers (A4Q-TF4D) syllabus released in March 202 is now renamed SDET.
“We decided to rename the recently developed syllabus TF4D to SDET to present the content in a more tangible way. The term SDET stands for Software Development Engineer in Test and is a common designation in the industry and many job advertisements. By renaming it, we want to clarify the contents of the curriculum on the one hand and hope to gain more visibility among the target group on the other hand,” explains Thorsten Geiselhart, head of the SDET Working Group and member of the German Testing Board.

The content of the syllabus has been adapted and optimized, as the goal remains to teach developers basic skills in testing. SDET is intended to increase competence and confidence in the effective selection and use of relevant testing approaches, methods and procedures during the development lifecycle. SDET is suitable for all developers who work indirectly and directly in environments of testers,” continues Thorsten Geiselhart.

The SDET curriculum helps participants gain a basic understanding of testing. All known basic testing procedures are explained in the curriculum and the context and applicability of these procedures are explained. A major focus is placed on static testing, the review process, and static analysis. White box and black box testing procedures relevant to the role of the developer are also covered.

The exam consists of 40 multiple choice questions. To pass the exam, a candidate must score at least 65% (26 marks).

The SDET scheme is available in English and German.

Since 27th October only the new SDET syllabus will apply.
